Men’s Tennis Turns in Strong Day at ITA Regionals

Feit advanced in singles and doubles alongside Hollingworth

STANFORD, Calif. — Gonzaga men's tennis player Sam Feit advanced in singles and paired up with Matthew Hollingworth to advance in doubles of the main draw at the ITA Northwest Regionals on Saturday in Stanford, Calif.

"It was another long day of tennis, which we like," head coach Jonas Piibor said. "Sam [Feit] and Matthew [Hollingworth] did a great job today winning two matches and beating the third-ranked Stanford team. Overall, I think we need to continue to bring more energy and moxie. We are looking forward to tomorrow."

The senior Feit, seeded fifth in the singles field, defeated San Francisco's Nitzan Ricklis 6-4, 6-2 to move to Sunday morning's Round of 16. Then in doubles, Feit and Hollingworth, seeded ninth, took down Pacific 8-5 and pulled a strong upset of third-seeded Stanford, 8-7(4), to move on to the quarterfinals at 9:15 a.m. Sunday morning.

Gonzaga also collected four victories in singles consolation play and one more in doubles consolation play on the day. In singles, Vincent Rettke won 6-2, 6-4, over Washington's Brandon Wong, and Hunter Egger beat Seattle's Lars Schmassmann 6-1, 6-1. Hollingworth earned a consolation victory over Cal's Can Kaya 6-3, 7-5, while Eric Hadigian defeated Washington's Stevie Gould 1-6, 6-4, 1-0(6).

In doubles consolation action, GU's Hadigian and Kyle Everly took down Sac State's Anton De La Puente and Carlos Rodriguez 8-5.
