TULSA, Okla. – Gonzaga's
Sam Feit advanced through the first round of the Qualifying Draw on Tuesday at the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla.
Feit opened play in Singles action, while also teaming up with
Eric Hadigian in doubles play. The GU duo of
Oliver Andersson and
Vincent Rettke also opened play in the Qualifying Draw of doubles.
Feit battled throughout his straight set win against UCLA's Drew Baird. The GU senior won the first set 7-5, then claimed a tiebreak in the second set, 7-6(5), to win the match. Feit will face Tulane's Hamish Stewart in the Round of 64 at 2:30 p.m. CT/12:30 p.m. PT on Tuesday.
In doubles, Andersson and Rettke pushed their opponents to the brink in a three-set match. Facing Justin Boulais and James Trotter of Ohio State, who are seeded in the 9-16 group overall in the field, the GU pair battled back from a 6-3 loss in the first set to win the second sect 6-3 and force a super tiebreaker. The Buckeyes came out on top 1-0(3).
Hadigian and Rettke faced the No. 8 seed in BYU's Ben Gajardo and Sam Tullis, falling 6-1, 7-5.
