LAS VEGAS, Nev. — Gonzaga's
Vincent Rettke led the squad on the first day of action at the Larry Easley Memorial Classic on Friday in Las Vegas, Nev.
Rettke received a first round by and then won his quarterfinal match in comeback fashion to advance to the semifinal of Flight One. In the quarters, Rettke defeated Tom Ciszewski of UNLV 4-6, 6-1, 6-3.
Rettke also teamed with
Matthew Hollingworth in doubles and helped the pair win their first-round match-up 8-6 over San Diego State to advance.
Hollingworth added a victory in his second match after falling in the opening round of Flight One. His win came over Ignacio Martinez, 6-3 6-3.
"We had a tough day today," head coach
Jonas Piibor said. "We expect to be better in terms of what we can control. I believe we will be stronger tomorrow."
Gonzaga will be back at the Easley Memorial Classic on Saturday morning for the second day of the three-day event.
