LINCOLN, Neb. – Earlier this afternoon, the Gonzaga men's tennis team battled against the University of Nebraska in a nonconference dual match. Today marks the first time in program history that the Bulldogs and Cornhuskers have faced off.
 
Beginning today's action was an intense doubles competition. In the No.3 spot, Nebraska's Shunya Maruyama and Leo Linquet defeated Gonzaga's Oscar Rashed and Gus Krauel by a score of 6-0. Shortly after, Nebraska clinched the doubles point when Calvin Mueller and Lars Johann earned a 6-4 court two victory against Gonzaga's Leon Roider and Pablo Gomez Galvan.
 
With the Cornhuskers having already clinched the doubles competition, the court one match between Gonzaga's Sasha Trkulja and Matthew Hollingworth and Nebraska's Anton Shepp and Nic Wiedenhorn went unfinished, ending with a score of 5-5.
 
Moving to the singles competition, Nebraska expanded their lead when Nikolay Sysoev picked up a 6-3, 6-4 win over Rashed. On court one, Shepp defeated Trkulja by a score of 6-4, 6-0. The Cornhuskers clinched the team victory when Rudi Christiansen claimed a 7-6, 6-0 victory over Gonzaga's Tom Dunlop.
 
With Nebraska having clinched the team victory, all other singles matches went unfinished.
 
Up next: The Gonzaga men's tennis team will return to the Stevens Center next weekend, as they are scheduled to face the University of Montana on February 18th at 10 am.
