Bulldog Classic Day Two Results
SPOKANE, Wash.--The Gonzaga men's tennis team continued to excel in singles play Saturday during the second day of the Bulldog Classic as three Zags advanced to main bracket semifinals of their home tournament at The Stevens Center.
In the top draw, Ruadhan O'Sullivan reached the semis with a strong two-set win over Montana's Victor Casadevall. The Zag won 6-1, 6-2, to pick up his eighth singles win and second semifinals appearance of the fall.
In the B Singles main flight, both Emilio Moreno and Ronzai Saurombe picked up strong quarterfinal wins to advance. Moreno reached the semis with a dominant 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Montana's Jacob Schoenherr. This too is Moreno's second semifinal of the fall after he advanced just as far in the season-opening EWU Fall Classic. Saurombe, meanwhile, downed Portland's Ethan Ogard 6-2, 6-1 for his third ticket to the semifinals of the season. Gonzaga's lone senior reached final matches at both the EWU Fall Classic and the Aggie Invitational.
In Singles A consolation play, Kyle Everly reached the semifinals with a pair of wins Saturday. To open the back draw, he downed a foe from Eastern Washington in two sets, and in the quarters, he beat Idaho's Lucas Coutinho in a third set super tiebreak. He'll face Eastern Washington's Scott Paz in the semifinals Sunday.
Two more Zags played singles contests during day two with Simon Homedes Dualde going 1-1 and Vincent Rettke 0-1. Dualde reached the A Singles quarters with an impressive second-round win over Idaho's Carlos Neto in round two. In the quarterfinals, he lost in two sets to Portland's Carlos Donat, who advances to meet Saurombe in the semis. Rettke, meanwhile, lost in three sets during a second-round contest.
In doubles play, one Zag duo fell out of the main bracket while another advanced in the consolation flight. Everly and Rettke dropped a quarterfinal match 8-5 to a pair from Montana, ending their run in the main bracket. In the back draw, Homedes Dualde and Sam Feit won twice Saturday, advancing to the consolation semifinal on Sunday. Those wins came at 6-4 over a pair from Portland State and 7-5 against a squad from Montana.
The Zags will wrap up their home tournament on Sunday, Oct. 30, once more at The Stevens Center. Play begins at 9:00 a.m. with the final two rounds of doubles action.
