WHAT. A. MATCH!:

  • Gonzaga is coming off a 4-3 thriller of a win over Idaho last Saturday...the Bulldogs, behind in all three doubles matches, rallied to win the doubles point, but Idaho took the dual lead by winning the first three singles matches to finish...Ruadhan O'Sullivan halted the run with a win at No. 1, leaving Simon Homedes Dualde and Ronzai Saurombe to win three-setters and the dual for GU.

ZAGS VS. SACRAMENTO STATE:

  • The Bulldogs and Hornets have played two matches since the 2000 season: a 7-0 Sacramento State win in 2006 at Sacramento and a 4-3 Gonzaga victory at home in 2015...the Hornets won the doubles point in that 2015 contest, but the Bulldogs won the first four singles matches to finish in order to clinch the win...Alvaro Nazal, Vladimir Mijatovic, Hayden Smith, and Nick Kamisar won singles matches...no current Zags were on that team.
  • Sacramento State is 4-1 on the year with a contest scheduled against Eastern Washington on Friday...they top the Big Sky Conference leaderboard at 3-0; only one other school is undefeated in league play...Mikus Losbergs and Christopher Clayton are each 3-1 in dual play...Losbergs has played all four matches at No. 1 singles while Clayton has split his time between Nos. 5 and 6...Clayton and doubles partner Kasparas Zemaitelis are 3-0 at No. 3 doubles on the year...Sacramento State has only lost one doubles point all season.
  • Both teams competed at the Aggie Invitational, and they met in three singles matches and one doubles contest...in singles, Sam Feit downed Donald Hall 6-4, 6-1 while both Simon Homedes Dualde and Emilio Moreno lost their matches...in doubles, Ronzai Saurombe and Ruadhan O'Sullivan combined to beat Clayton and Louis Chabut 8-4.

BIG SKY FINALE:

  • This is the third consecutive Big Sky foe for Gonzaga...they began the stretch with a 7-0 win over Eastern Washington and continued it with last week's 4-3 win over Idaho...there are no more Big Sky foes remaining on the schedule.
  • Idaho was voted to win the conference while Sacramento State was slotted third, 11 points behind the Vandals...the conference's coaches selected EWU to finish seventh of 12.
  • In addition to the full complement of WCC matches, the Zags have or will also face opponents from the Big West (3), Mountain West (2), Pac 12 (1), and Big South (1).

COUNTING TO THREE:

  • The Zags have seen four singles matches go to a third set at home during dual play, and they've won all of them...Simon Homedes Dualde has played two while Kyle Everly and Ronzai Saurombe have seen one each.
  • In all four duals, the Zags are 4-2 in three-setters...both Saurombe and Ruadhan O'Sullivan lost extended matches at Washington...over the 2016-17 school year, the Bulldogs are 23-13 in three-set contests.
