SANTA BARBARA, Calif.-The Gonzaga University men's tennis team saw a three-match win streak snapped Wednesday afternoon as the Zags fell to No. 50 UC Santa Barbara 6-1 at Santa Barbara, Calif.

The Bulldogs' lone point came from the No. 4 singles contest, where Ronzai Saurombe downed Anders Holm in three sets. Holm took the first set 1-6, but Saurombe stormed back in the second by the tune of 6-2. Gonzaga's lone senior then doubled up Holm 6-3 in the third for the win, his fifth of the dual season.

UC Santa Barbara won every other match that finished, however. The home team began the dual by winning Nos. 2 and 3 doubles and claiming the doubles point, also snapping the Zags' six-dual streak in pairs play as well. The No. 1 singles match, Ruadhan O'Sullivan and Sam Feit against the nation's sixth-ranked squad of Simon Freund and Morgan Mays, remained unfinished.

The Gauchos then won the first four singles matches to finish. Emilio Moreno and Simon Homedes Dualde fell on courts five and six in two sets, and UCSB clinched with a two-setter on court three as well. At No. 2 singles, Vincent Rettke pushed Morgan Mays into an extra game in the first set but ultimately lost both frames by a break for a 7-5, 6-4 decision.

At that point, Saurombe finished off Holm to put the Zags on the scoreboard, but the dual ended when Nicholas Moreno de Alboran downed O'Sullivan in a tight three-setter on court one. The Zag sophomore won the first set via a tiebreak at 6-7, but Moreno de Alboran countered with a 6-3 second set, forcing a third set super tiebreak. He won that extra period 11-9 to round out the match.

UC Santa Barbara entered the match ranked No. 50 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's team rankings. This was the first time all season Gonzaga had faced a ranked squad, although two of the Zags' previous foes - Washington and Utah State - have since moved into the organization's poll.

The Bulldogs (5-4) look to close out their Spring Break and their non-conference schedule with a win on Friday, March 17, when they take on UC Irvine. That match will begin at 10:00 a.m. in Irvine, Calif.
