SPRING BREAK SUCCESS:

  • The Bulldogs are coming off a solid three-game stretch over Spring Break...they opened the week with a 4-3 win at UC Riverside in their first outdoor match of the season...two days later, Ronzai Saurombe picked up the Bulldogs' lone point at No. 50 UCSB, the Bulldogs' first ranked foe of the dual year, and they ended their week in SoCal with a 4-0 win at UC Irvine, Gonzaga's first win against the Anteaters.
  • At No. 1 doubles, Ruadhan O'Sullivan and Sam Feit went 2-0 on the weekend, earning WCC Doubles Team of the Week...Saurombe went a perfect 3-0 at No. 4 singles over the week, and Vincent Rettke won a pair of matches at No. 2 singles.

BAY AREA ROUND ONE:

  • This is Gonzaga's first of two conference trips to the Bay Area this season...the Bulldogs also travel to Moraga and Stockton for matches at Saint Mary's and Pacific in April. San Francisco leads the overall series 12-3, but the Bulldogs took last year's matchup 4-1...Ruadhan
  • O'Sullivan capped off the win with a comeback victory on court two...he was down 0-5 in his second set before rallying for the frame win and then won his third set...Emilio Moreno and Ronzai Saurombe also played in that match.
  • The Dons are led by Mert Zincirili in singles play, who's tallied a 13-9 overall mark and 8-4 record in dual play...Zincirili has played at Nos. 1, 2, and 3 singles so far this season...Johan Joenhagen, meanwhile is 14-10 overall, and 6-7 in dual play...in doubles, no pair with more than two matches played has a winning dual record...Oliver Poysti and Christian Brockstedt have three dual victories in 2017.
  • Santa Clara leads the series with Gonzaga 16-3...the Bulldogs' last win against the Broncos came in 2015 in Santa Clara, but no current Zag was in that match...last year, Gonzaga fell 4-2 in Spokane, getting a singles win from O'Sullivan and by winning the doubles point.
  • Conner Garnett leads the Broncos with a 14-3 overall mark and 11-1 tally in doubles play...he's played all 12 matches at No. 3 singles...at No. 2 singles, Andrew Gu is 9-2 in duals and also has 14 total victories...Garnett and Robert Seby have combined for an 8-4 overall record, and they're 5-2 at No. 1 doubles this year.

GOING LONG:

  • The Bulldogs have seen plenty of extra tennis this season...over Spring Break, Gonzaga went 2-4 in three-set matches that finished...they're now 28-21 in three-set matches this season, and every Zag has at least one three-set victory...Vincent Rettke leads the team with eight wins in 10 three-setters, good for a .800 win percentage.
  • Gonzaga is 14-17 in set tiebreakers after Emilio Moreno and Ruadhan O'Sullivan each one a breaker during Spring Break...O'Sullivan has been the top Zag during the race to seven points, going 4-2 in tiebreaks...Rettke also has four tiebreak victories...both O'Sullivan and Sam Feit have been the most adept Bulldogs in frames decided in an extra game as they both are 5-1 in 7-5 sets.
