ABOUT LAST WEEKEND:

  • The Zags lost both duals in the Bay Area last weekend, falling 4-2 at Saint Mary's and 4-0 at Pacific...against the Gaels, Gonzaga won the doubles point and then got a singles victory from Vincent Rettke on court two, but the Gaels picked up four singles matches for the dual win...Rettke/Kyle Everly and Ronzai Saurombe/Simon Homedes Dualde picked up doubles wins for the pairs point, GU's record-equaling 11th of the season.
  • At Pacific, Ruadhan O'Sullivan and Sam Feit picked up a strong 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles, but the Zags didn't claim any more victories en route to the 4-0 loss.

THE WEEKEND AT HOME:

  • Gonzaga is 2-19 against Loyola Marymount since 2000 with those wins coming under head coach Peter MacDonald in 2011 and 2015...the Zags were swept by the Lions last year 5-0 in LA, but they won the most recent home dual against LMU 5-2 two years ago, winning the doubles point and four singles contests.
  • Freshman Gabriel Diaz Freire leads the Lions with a 12-5 record in singles play, 4-1 in the WCC, and is currently on a six-match win streak...six Lions have won five matches on the year, but Diaz Freire is the only Lion with a winning record in conference play...Luke Bohuslav and Ryan Brown have a team-best 11-8 record...they are the only pairing with double-digit win totals on the year.
  • The Zags are winless in nine matches against Pepperdine but have taken points in three of the last four years...two years ago in Spokane, they were just one point away from an upset at home versus the No. 50 Waves, winning three singles matches and going to three sets in the final individual contest that finished.
  • Three Waves have posted 18 wins on the season...senior Guilherme Hadlich has played all 17 of his singles matches on court one, winning 11...he is on a six-match win streak and 6-0 in WCC play...freshman Dane Esses holds a team-best 11-5 singles record in dual meets...Hadlich and Gabriel Sidney lead Pepperdine in doubles play with a 15-6 overall record, 5-1 in WCC play...Stefan Menichella and Jack Van Slyke are coming off back-to-back doubles wins and are currently tied with Hadlich/Sidney with a team-best 15 doubles wins.

IT'S BEEN TWO YEARS ALREADY?!?:

  • Before Sunday's match versus Pepperdine, the Bulldogs will honor lone senior Ronzai Saurombe for his dedication to Gonzaga tennis the last two years...the Mutare, Zimbabwe native came to Spokane for the 2015-16 season...so far, he's tallied 20 singles wins and 15 doubles victories, with 15 and 10, respectively, coming this season.

DOUBLE-U CC PLAY:

  • Four of Gonzaga's 11 doubles points on the year have come in conference play, matching last year's total...this matches the Zags' highest WCC doubles point total in recent program history (since at least 2009).
  • The No. 3 doubles team of Ronzai Saurombe and Simon Homedes Dualde is 4-2 in WCC play, and the other two teams are 3-4.
